SAVAR provides comprehensive services including advocacy, therapy, support group, education and prevention programming to survivors of sexual violence in Cayuga County.
All services are free and confidential and provided to everyone regardless of gender, age, economic/cultural/ethnic background or sexual orientation. Services are also available for family members of survivors.
Services We
Offer
24 Hour Hotline
Support is available 24 hours a day – 7 days a week to survivors, family members and the community.
Accompaniment
Advocates are available to meet survivors at medical facilities, law enforcement agencies, and/or the courts to provide emotional support and information.
Crime Victims Compensation
Crime victims are entitled to compensation through the Office of Victim Services. This may include lost wages, damaged property, medical costs, and counseling. SAVAR advocates will assist you in filing out and submitting the claim forms
Support Group
Support group that meets weekly for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.
Advocacy
Advocacy and support is available for victims of sexual violence.
Case Management
Comprehensive, individualized supportive case management services to help clients return to stability and work towards healing following their victimization.
Community and Professional Education
Education Programs for schools and the community are available on a wide range of topics, for all age levels. Programs are available at no cost to schools, community groups, churches, professionals, and others,
Volunteer Opportunities
SAVAR would not exist without the support of our volunteers. Advocates complete a free 40 hour training to become certified rape crisis counselors/ advocates and are then prepared to assist victims in a variety of settings. IF YOU ARE, OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW IS, SEXUALLY ASSAULTED:
Following a sexual assault there are several options to consider:
• Get to a safe place and/or call someone you trust;
• Call SAVAR’s 24 hour hotline;
• Seek medical treatment as soon as possible;
• Auburn Community Hospital’s Emergency Department, SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners) Nurses are available to collect evidence and provide treatment for STDs and pregnancy;
• Don’t take a shower; preserve the clothes worn at the time of the assault;
• If you decide you want to report the crime, contact the police.

24/7 Rape Crisis Hotline
The hotline is available 24/7 for Emergency Support or Services ONLY! If a client needs support getting a SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examination) done or needs immediate support reporting to the police please call the hotline. Additionally, if immediate emergency crisis intervention and safety planning is needed, please call the hotline.

If you are looking for information, referrals, to be set up with an advocate (and it isn’t urgent), psychoeducation, to get enrolled in therapy, to get involved with support group that can be done by calling Taylor's extension *302 during business hours.
